Era-defining punk-rock trio Green Day – known for their high-energy performances and anthemic hits including ‘Basket Case’ and ‘American Idiot’ – will make their stage debut in Mzansi when they play Calabash South Africa in January 2025.
This annual music festival has become a highlight of the summer calendar, with events in Johannesburg and Cape Town featuring world-class acts from the world of pop, rock and punk.
This will be the first time the trio from Berkeley, California, will play live for South African fans. In a 30-year career, the group has won five Grammy Awards on their way to becoming one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time: they have sold more than 70 million records worldwide, and clocked up 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams. But it won't only be Green Day having a blast at Calabash South Africa 2025.
Green Day will headline Calabash South Africa alongside punk-rock legends The Offspring and local favourites Fokofpolisiekar.
The Offspring are one of the biggest names in punk-rock and deliver timeless classics ‘Self Esteem’ and ‘Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)’ to Calabash fans. Fokofpolisiekar will bring a guitar-driven splash of local flavour to the stage, with a signature blend of punk and alternative rock.
Calabash South Africa 2025 will take place at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium on January 23, 2025. Calabash South Africa tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster.
