Get ready to kick up your feet and let your hair down as celebrated Stellenbosch chefs Bertus Basson and Drikus Brink get set to host the Baden Powell Opskop at Vergenoegd Löw wine estate on Saturday,  November 2.

It’s a day devoted to fine food and wine – with a side order of entertainment – with 28 wine farms from the region confirmed to set up stalls for tasting. Look forward to delicious canapés served on arrival, followed by a generous harvest-style lunch. Last year's rousing live band is also back by popular demand.

The opskop – that’s Afrikaans for, like, a proper party – takes place at Clara's Barn, Basson and Brink's celebrated restaurant and its historic walled-in werf on the Vergenoegd Löw estate.

And who was Baden Powell, the man who lent his name to the eponymous Opskop and the famous highway that runs right past Vergenoegd Löw's doorstep?

Baron Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell (1857-1941) was a British Army officer, writer, founder and first Chief Scout of the worldwide Scout Movement. His handbook, Scouting for Boys, was the fourth best-selling book of the 20th century. As a military strategist, he is particularly remembered for his skill in defending British troops at the Siege of Mafeking during the Second South African War.

That sense of history ties in neatly with Basson and Brink’s devotion to heritage cuisine at their pair of farm kitchens. And while the menu is still under wraps, you can expect to enjoy plenty of homegrown flavours when the Opskop rolls into the Winelands in November.

There are limited tickets available via Quicket for the Baden Powell Opskop, which takes place from 11am-4pm. Tickets cost R650, which includes wine, food and live music.

You heard right! The Galileo open-air cinema is back for the summer!
