On Tuesday morning, 8 April 2025, a massive storm engulfed Cape Town, causing flooding and chaos on the roads around the city.
The storm is expected to continue into Wednesday, 9 April, with more flood warnings being issued.
The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services are currently attending to a number of issues on the roads, with spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout explaining the situation to The Voice of the Cape: “On the M3, a truck overturned at Upper Trovato Link, resulting in multiple injuries and obstruction of the right lane.
“Additionally, another truck broke down at Hospital Bend inbound on the M3, also blocking the right lane. The N2 outbound between Mowbray Main Road and Liesbeek Parkway has a flooded right lane. Flooding has also affected the left lane on the Stellenbosch Arterial eastbound at Robert Sobukwe.”
Road users are being asked to be patient, leave earlier than normal to allow for traffic and ensure your headlights are on for the full duration of your trip.
Maintaining a safe following distance is also imperative.
