"When they’re home, they spend the entire day in front of the TV." "Or with the tablet." "Or on video games." "Or with the phone." There are countless distractions at home that seem to abduct our kids, like "aliens," keeping them glued to the couch and staring at screens.

To get them away from that, there's nothing better than signing them up for a sport or recreational activity, where they can connect with a group of friends, engage in a game, or get moving outdoors. Here are some ideal activity options for kids of different ages and in various locations.

Bonus tip: Did you know that the Buenos Aires City Sports Department offers free activities in the city’s 12 sports complexes and 4 parks? Each complex has 10 to 15 sports to choose from, with specialized instructors for all ages, from young children to adults. Through DeportesBA, you can view activities at each sports complex and register online.

1. Climbing

At Escalando Perú Beach, they offer climbing classes for kids aged 8 to 16, with safety methods and exercises specifically designed for climbing development on artificial walls. Run by high-performance climbers and instructors certified by the Argentine Federation of Skiing and Mountaineering, the goal is to allow kids to enjoy recreational activities, play, and stimulate their natural climbing ability—a key part of motor skills and physical-sport development in children.

Classes are divided by age and level, offering a variety of activities. These include low-height postural movements on Mini-Walls up to 3-4 meters ("Bouldering") with padding underneath, and rope climbing, where ropes are anchored at the top of walls up to 10 meters. Children wear a harness and are assisted by instructors with a belay device, helping them reach the "Top-Rope" and then descend with a "Rappel" technique.

Tip: They also offer group recreational climbing sessions for kids who want to try a class; a trial session is required before joining the regular school. Kids can start from age 7, and specific climbing shoes aren’t required. Check their social media for schedule updates.

2. Skateboarding

Within a large skatepark at Perú Beach, there’s a skateboarding school offering 1-hour classes for kids 5 and up, plus half-hour sessions for younger children under 5. Classes are divided by level, allowing kids to progress as they improve. Younger children learn the skateboarding basics so they can join regular classes as they grow.

The skatepark is open for practice Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tip: They’ve also added surfskate classes for those who want to learn and improve surfing techniques on land.
