Based in Buenos Aires, Pinta BAphoto has become an undeniable reference point for photography, providing a meeting space for artists, curators, critics, collectors, and an ever-growing public.

For its 20th anniversary, Pinta BAphoto, which began as Buenos Aires Photo and later evolved into the international Pinta format with fairs in various cities, is set in a very special space at La Rural. The high wooden ceilings, iron structures, and exposed brick walls evoke the essence of La Rural’s origins. This setting immediately influences how the booths interact with the environment, creating a unique atmosphere for an art fair.

This year, Pinta BAphoto gathers 65 galleries

One particularly interesting aspect is the challenge of shared booths. Many galleries have opted to share the same space, creating a dialogue not only between the artworks but also between the galleries themselves. It’s a dynamic of both distance and closeness, reflecting the collaborative spirit of art.

"One thing I find particularly interesting is the challenge of sharing booths"

Visiting the fair is a pleasure; although it’s not small, its size allows you to enjoy it in a couple of hours. Everything is carefully organized and neat. There are two bookstores: Ediciones La Riviere, located in La Boca, and La Paragráfica, which often participates in ArteBA. Additionally, a charming detail is the presence of books created and altered by artists, always a treasure to discover.

As for the photographs, there’s something for all tastes and budgets, with black-and-white, color, and variously sized pieces. The gallery owners are present, attentively staffing their booths, with the aim, of course, to sell.

There is Federal Representation at the Fair

With galleries from different provinces like Córdoba, Salta, and Tucumán, among others. From Tucumán, the story of El Consultorio gallery stands out. Named after the former podiatry office of the owner’s grandmother, the space has transformed into an art gallery while maintaining its original layout; where feet were once treated, art now walks. It’s a charming and unique story, one of the fair's curious gems.

Another standout this year is the Fotogalería del Teatro San Martín, participating in Pinta BAphoto for the first time. Directed by Claudio Larrea, this debut brings a palpable excitement among Claudio and his team.

Personally, what impacted me the most was El Consultorio for its unique story, along with Tramo's proposal. The inclusive and federal nature of this edition, which includes galleries from across Latin America and Argentine provinces alongside Buenos Aires’s classic galleries, brought a diverse and enriching atmosphere.
