Michelin Guide 2025: surprises, joys and disappointments of the second edition

There were 3 new stars, 3 new green stars, and 3 new Bib Gourmands. A total of 80 restaurants in Buenos Aires and Mendoza are part of the new guide, including 10 with stars.

The long wait has come to an end. On a cool night in Mendoza, warmed by toasts in the garden of Susana Balbo winery in Luján de Cuyo, the 2025 Michelin Guide was announced, honoring the best restaurants in the Buenos Aires and Mendoza culinary scene. Time Out Buenos Aires was present to bring you all the details of this unique moment for Argentine gastronomy. First, the most important news: there are three new stars. Two went to restaurants in Mendoza—Riccitelli Bistró and Angélica—and one stayed in Buenos Aires at Crizia, the more-than-20-year-old restaurant by chef Gabriel Oggero.

Which Restaurants Earned Michelin Stars

All restaurants that had earned a star in the previous edition (Don JulioTreschaAzafránZondaBrindillas and Casa Vigil) kept their star, as did Aramburu with its two stars. In the final count, the inspectors of the prestigious guide still slightly favor the wine-producing province, which now has six stars in this edition compared to Buenos Aires' five.

"We are happy. We worked a lot better. We are pleased to maintain the surprise, and this surprise came. We are a small restaurant, in the kitchen, we are four. Pure effort, pure blood," said Juan Ventureyra, who won a star for Riccitelli Bistró, located inside the Riccitelli winery in Las Compuertas.

Gabriel Oggero from Crizia, another big winner of the night, said: "I am a soul chef, I’ve never done anything else in my life. This comes at a wonderful time for the restaurant, we are always reinventing ourselves."

Who Won Michelin Green Stars

There were also new green stars, which the French guide, created 125 years ago to guide early motorists in their gastronomic explorations, awards to restaurants for their sustainability efforts. Alcanfor, the small restaurant by Julián Galande in Villa Crespo, earned a green star, along with Angélica and Osadía de Crear, in Mendoza.

One of the highlights of the night was the "Best Young Chef" award given to Nicolás Tykocki, a 27-year-old chef from the restaurant Ácido, a place that inspectors seem to favor, as it entered the guide in its first edition just a few months after opening its doors in Chacarita.

"We are a small family-run restaurant, as cooks, we are here all day," Tykocki said emotionally upon taking the stage.

Regarding the Bib Gourmand, the recognition that highlights the balance between price and quality, the room erupted when they named MN Santa Inés, the restaurant by chef Jazmín Marturet, one of the female-led spots standing out in the city. Located in a former bakery in La Paternal, it is known for its fantastic and inclusive pricing policy. Also receiving a Bib Gourmand 2025 were Ajo Negro by Emanuel Álvarez and Emiliano Nahuel, and Ácido.

New Restaurants in the 2025 Michelin Guide

Beyond the stars, green stars, Bib Gourmands, and special awards, 16 new restaurants entered the list. These had not been mentioned in the 2024 edition.

In Buenos Aires, notable new entries included Ultramarinos, Evelia, and Fico. A surprise was the inclusion of Han, by chef Pablo Park, which opened just three months ago with a fine dining menu with Korean touches. Also joining the list were AlcanforHortaRaixMichel Rolland Grill and Wine and La Cabaña. From Mendoza, the new additions were Anna BistróBrutalMartino WinesAssemblage at Alta Vista winery, and the restaurants at Norton (La Vid) and Lamadrid (Los Bocheros).

Major Absences from the 2025 Michelin Guide

"Somewhat lukewarm." "A bit disappointing." "Missing places." These are some of the comments circulating in post-announcement discussions. There were expectations for more stars, more new entries, and corrections compared to the first edition. No one understands why Gran Dabbang, by chef Mariano Ramón, one of the most solid restaurants in the local scene, was once again left out. Read Time Out’s interview with Mariano Ramón.

It was also striking that Ness, one of the best openings of 2024 and a notable player in the gastronomy scene, led by Leo Lanussol, was not considered, or that places like Happening or Tintorería Yafuso were missing, to name a few where there were high hopes.

Unlike in Mexico, where a taquería even received a star, here there is still no proposal for a more classic Buenos Aires-style restaurant, such as a pizzeria or a parrilla that has been consistently doing good work over time (and they do exist). It was also surprising that places like La Carnicería or Piedra Infinita, from the Zuccardi family, were left out of the guide. In Buenos Aires, it’s clear that the limit is the General Paz to evaluate projects, but in Mendoza, the boundaries are more ambiguous—where exactly is the cutoff?—and there is no longer any representative from the Uco Valley.

New Michelin-Starred Restaurants

  • Crizia (Buenos Aires)

A solid proposal with more than twenty years of history by chef Gabriel Oggero. In 2024, it earned a green star for its careful work with Argentine seafood and its traceability. Fish, shellfish, and especially oysters form the base of the menu at this Palermo restaurant, where wine, with a three-story cellar and more than 350 labels, is also a star.

  • Ángelica (Mendoza)

Opened in 2023 at the Catena Zapata winery, but gained momentum when it brought in part of the team from the now-closed fine dining restaurant Chila. In the kitchen, the duo of Josefina Diana and Juan Manuel Feijoo, and in the dining room, Juan Manuel Santamarina. With wine as the star, they design their menu from the garden to accompany it: delicate, subtle, and sensitive cuisine that serves as the perfect counterbalance to the robustness of the setting, where stone and fine wood dominate. Brazilian tourists love it, and reservations sell out months in advance, even though it is one of the most expensive restaurants in Argentina.

  • Riccitelli Bistró (Mendoza)

A breath of fresh air in the category of winery restaurants. It offered a lighter, more vegetable-based menu that paired perfectly with the distinct wines of Matías Riccitelli. They have their own garden and create dishes based on seasonal availability: tomatoes are key, but also many herbs that round out the dishes by chef Juan Ventureyra. In 2025, they also maintained their green star for their sustainability work. The bistro is housed in a container and is particularly beautiful on sunny days when the tables extend into the gallery and garden, offering a stunning view of the Andes.
