It’s well known that Argentina is one of the countries with the highest theater consumption globally. With a wide selection of plays in commercial, independent, and official circuits, Buenos Aires’ theater scene can rival cities like New York and London.

And naturally, as a result of this rich theatrical offer, comes an unimaginable number of artists seeking to make their way in the industry, getting on stage to keep alive the theatrical essence that so characterizes the city.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of ten actresses who are currently excelling in theater and also in the audiovisual world, and you definitely need to keep an eye on them!

1. Agustina Cabo

Undoubtedly, one of the first names that come to mind when we think of the great Argentine actresses of this generation. At just 23 years old, Agustina Cabo studied singing, dance, poetry, and trained as an actress and playwright.

“Theater is a language that has accompanied me since I was 10 years old. It’s a way of going through life. It’s a refuge,” says the young actress.

At such a young age, Agustina has an extensive acting career. In audiovisual, she has participated in successful projects such as “Yo adolescente,” “Simona,” and “Silencios de familia.” In theater, she has been part of numerous plays, mainly in the independent circuit. This year, she joined the casts of “El Juego II - Inicios” and “Yo no duermo la siesta.”

Currently, she is performing in “La Pilarcita” on Fridays at El Camarín de las Musas at 8 and 10 pm.

2. Luciana Grasso

When talking about the best actresses of this generation, we have to mention Luciana Grasso. This talented actress and director, 31 years old, has made her mark in both theater and audiovisual fields, achieving international recognition with her lead role in “Vera y el placer de los otros.”

She currently shines on Corrientes Street as Natali in “Yo no duermo la siesta” by Paula Marull and was recently nominated for the 2024 ACE Awards as Best Actress for her work in “El sonido” by Javier Daulte.

“We’ve been doing 'Yo no duermo la siesta' for many years, and now it has reached a circuit where, luckily, much more people can come. It’s a very unique and loving play. We’ve been working on it for a long time, and for all of us, it’s a new cycle,” says the actress.

3. Luján Blaksley

At 25, she has been involved in several plays such as “Rosa en las Islas,” “Asesinato de un Ángel,” and “FACA,” as well as in successful musicals like “La caja mágica,” “Shrek,” “Querido Evan,” “Bienvenide a tu final,” and the play that earned her the 2024 Hugo Award for “Best Female Performance in a Children’s/Youth Musical,” “Lexi, hablemos de dislexia.”

“I’m grateful to life for knowing what my vocation is and, on top of that, living what I love. It moves me,” says Luján Blaksley. Beyond her theater acting, she has also participated in audiovisual projects like “Reflejado,” “Kally’s Mashup,” and “Todos podemos volar.”

4. Camila Peralta

At 32, Camila Peralta has had a long journey in the artistic world, with roles in series and films like “Envidiosa,” “Planners,” “Puan,” and “Clara se pierde en el bosque.” In theater, she has worked as an actress, playwright, and director.

However, her leading role in the one-woman show “Suavecita,” by Martín Bontempo, caused a real sensation, captivating both the audience and critics. This success earned her a Trinidad Guevara Award and a nomination for the ACE Awards.

“I can’t believe I don’t have to make an effort to get people to come to the theater; they just recommend it and keep coming. That’s the greatest reward,” says Camila about the love the audience has for “Suavecita,” which started in independent spaces and now plays at the Teatro Metropolitan on Corrientes Street. “'Suavecita' is a turning point in my career, a before and after. Thanks to the play, I started to have confidence in what I can do and generate in people,” she adds.

5. Sheila Saslavsky

Sheila Saslavsky is an actress and singer. From a young age, she trained in acting, singing, and dancing, giving her the tools to dedicate herself to both text-based theater and musicals. Throughout this year, she worked in various plays, most of them in the independent circuit, including “Del nombre de los sentimientos,” “Dos: una desconexión,” “La coartada,” “Para tibio pastel de manzana,” and “La Papa.”

Did she ever imagine she’d get to where she is today? “I like the idea of achievement, but I don’t like talking in terms of success or arriving somewhere. I think it’s still a path to be built. I keep training, I keep working, and I keep focused,” she reveals.

6. Carolina Kopelioff

Carolina Kopelioff trained in acting, dance, singing, and musical theater with great teachers like Nora Moseinco and Paula Grinzpan. She has starred in several films, TV series, and numerous theater productions in the independent, commercial, and official circuits.

Many will remember her for her role as Nina Simonetti in the hit Disney Channel series “Soy Luna” (2015-2018). She also participated in “Aladdin the Musical” at the Gran Rex Theater, “Mirarnos así hasta morirnos” at the San Martín Cultural Center, and “Los viajantes” at Espacio Callejón.

“Theater occupies a very important place in my life, essential. I can’t imagine this profession without doing theater. It’s a huge refuge for me,” says the actress. Her most recent work was “Un tiro cada uno,” a play at Dumont 4040.

7. Lucien Gilabert

When thinking of actresses taking Argentine musical theater by storm, Lucien Gilabert is one who must be mentioned. She has participated in several independent circuit productions as an actress, playwright, director, and producer in plays like “Felices Fiestas,” “Post master,” and “La casa de Paty.”

In recent years, she has starred in plays on Corrientes Street like “Lo Quiero Ya” and the Argentine adaptation of the musical “Tick Tick Boom” at Paseo La Plaza. Her most recent role was playing Vivian Ward in the musical “Legally Blonde” at the Teatro Liceo, where she stood out for her vocal excellence.

“If someone had a good time with me, if I inspired someone, if someone got emotional from something in my work, then the job is done,” she says. She adds, “I always tell my students that there are no secrets except perseverance and working with passion and love for the profession.”

8. Rocío Hernández

Rocío Hernández is an actress and singer who is becoming one of the prominent names in the new world of acting. She triumphed in the successful Polka series “Buenos chicos,” participated in international film productions, and starred in “Querido Evan,” the theatrical hit of Corrientes Street in 2023, which won seven Hugo Awards.

Talking about her relationship with art, she shares: “I can’t imagine my life without art. Theater is one of my first loves in life. It was the artistic branch that led me to the decision to become an actress. I love the realness of theater, the collective nature, the craftsmanship, the idea of feeling that in a theater, time, which goes so fast, suddenly stops.”

Now, at 26, she has worked with Disney and even shared the set with Oscar-winning actors like Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons.

9. Verónica Gerez

The word “multifaceted” perfectly describes Verónica Gerez, who stands out as an actress, musician, producer, singer, and director. She works in theater, film, and television.

In independent theater, she has been part of several productions, with her most recent being “Derecho de piso,” a musical at the Galpón de Guevara. She also participated in works like “Se ha muerto un puto,” “Familia no tipo y la nube maligna,” and “Piramidal.”

“I’ve always been deeply moved by fiction, and music has always called to me. My ambition is to do things that move me. That’s what has driven me throughout my life,” she says.

Verónica also has a strong career in film. Currently, she is part of “El aroma del pasto recién cortado,” the acclaimed film by Celina Murga, with executive production by Martin Scorsese.

10. Georgina Tirotta

Georgina Tirotta has become one of the favorite artists on the Argentine theater scene in recent years. She is an actress, dancer, and choreographer, trained in theater, musical theater, and a variety of dance styles.

In 2024, she stood out in major hits like Tootsie, Legally Blonde, and La Desgracia, the Argentine musical that has been running for seven seasons. In this last show, she plays Samanta, one of the funniest and most entertaining characters in Argentine musical comedy, according to the audience. "La Desgracia is a national gem; it gives me so much joy to perform it and soak in the talent of my colleagues. It’s a privilege to be part of this cast," she says.

During the recent awards season, she was nominated for the Hugo Awards for her work as a choreographer in Legally Blonde, where she also brought the character Serena to life. Without a doubt, Georgina Tirotta is a well-rounded artist who embodies Argentine talent, passion, and artistry in every sense of the word.
