"She comes in colours everywhere," sing The Rolling Stones in their song She’s A Rainbow. It seems like they dedicated it to the young Argentine illustrator Agus Minuto, who stands out for her vibrant, full-color designs, with a keen eye for detail and, above all, an abundance of style. You’ve probably come across one of her phone cases, Tarot cards, or planners…

I chatted with the artist who illustrated the Time Out Experience by Imperial map to learn more about how she thinks, what she feels, and what inspires her.

So, we're colleagues! Even though you’re an artist, did you ever work in journalism?

I often say I'm an illustrator and forget that I’m also a journalist! I studied journalism, worked in communications for a year, but life led me to illustration. I feel that in my work today, I draw heavily on everything I learned in journalism because through illustrations, I seek to communicate a message.

How did illustration enter your life?

It started when I began organizing art events in bars with my current business partner. I made the event flyers and discovered a real passion for digital illustration. I’ve always drawn and painted since I was young, but I never imagined it could be a career option. I'm not sure why; my family was open-minded, and I was never pressured to study something specific. But I think it was an unconscious bias of mine, not considering art as an option. However, today I spend my entire week drawing, and it's my great passion.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I draw inspiration from many sources—books, music, nature, travel. I also love fashion, like Hermès and Gucci, for instance. I'm fascinated by flowers, especially orchids. As for my favorite artists, they’re David Hockney and Henri Matisse.

Did you have a defined style from the start, or did you “find” it over the years?

I think there was a colorful streak from the beginning, but my style seems to solidify more each year. I try new things, but certain elements remain constant: phrases, colors, texture play, and the portrayal of an imperfect, human woman.

What does a project need to make you say yes?

Today I have the privilege of choosing the projects I want to do. To accept, I need to feel genuinely drawn to them. My favorites are book covers because I love reading.

In your career, what dreams do you still have to fulfill?

I’m leaning more into art and selling original works; I'd love to expand my sales internationally. Currently, I’m selling in Madrid and Barcelona, and I’d love to reach Japan. Additionally, I’d love to design for Hermès. I dream of designing one of their scarves!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I like reading, doing yoga, and going for walks. I also love traveling, exploring new countries and cultures, and hearing new stories.

Do you have any influences in the illustration world?

I’m really inspired by two Argentine illustrators, María Luque and Pepita Sandwich, and a Chilean one named Elena Ho. I love all three for their originality, concepts, and color palettes.
