Without a doubt, we Argentinians are “ice cream lovers,” no matter the time of year. Whether it's cold or hot, we're always ready to indulge in a cone or a cup of our favorite flavors. Statistics say we consume an average of seven kilograms of ice cream per person each year. Moreover, ice cream shops are multiplying, each offering more tempting and sophisticated options.

But the “ice cream craze” has also reached restaurants, which now include ice cream-based desserts with different twists to ensure the end of the dining experience is just as exquisite as the beginning. Here are five Buenos Aires restaurants that honor the “great ice cream” on its special day, with options that will leave you craving more. And if you're still hungry for more, here’s our list of the best ice cream shops in Buenos Aires.

1. Gordo Chanta

At Gordo Chanta, they went all in to stand out from the crowd of pizza places, and they’ve become a cult spot with their slow-fermented dough and generous crusts, with high-quality ingredients in every bite. But hold on! They’re also ice cream enthusiasts and already have two hits in the frozen dessert world: a chantilly soft serve that accompanies their spectacular baklava and the Don Pedro, a twist on the classic porteño dessert made with a measure of Scotch whisky, cream ice cream, and candied peanuts.

2. Bordó

A recent opening by Federico Kelemen, the chef behind Mengano, that’s been causing quite a stir in the gastronomic scene. Bordó’s concept is based on each dish highlighting a single ingredient, creating a parallel with the grape as the star of every bottle of wine. Ice cream makes its appearance in both savory and sweet dishes, depending on the season, and at the moment it stands out in two unmissable desserts: peach and chocolate, which incorporates white and milk semifreddos.

3. Baja América

Baja América is a project by two Mexican friends, Antonio Bautista and Freddy Morales, who developed a menu inspired by Latin American flavors, paired with great wine labels. They have a distinctive dessert that’s a sophisticated option: avocado ice cream with English cream, served with cocoa soil, diced apple, and lime-lemon curd.

4. El Preferido

What can we say about El Preferido that hasn't already been said gastronomically? Well, instead of talking about the perfect milanesa, the bife de chorizo, the charcuterie, or the double-cooked fries, let’s talk about their ice cream. Chef Guido Tassi took the task of offering the best quality ice creams very seriously, incorporating techniques from the best neighborhood ice cream shops. The star flavors at this iconic Palermo corner are sambayón and pistachio, both of which you must try.

How about a classic? Happening in Puerto Madero is synonymous with the best meats in the city and impeccable service that goes beyond any passing trend. The ice creams are just as excellent as any dish you choose. Be warned! The ones made with 70% cocoa and pistachios are an absolute delight.
