Visiting a park, being near the river, and spending the afternoon outdoors with friends and some cold drinks can be great plans to make the summer heat more bearable.

I suggest a fantastic plan: you arrive at the location, spread a blanket on the grass, take off your socks and shoes. You lie down under the shade of a tree, and while feeling the breeze coming from the river, you open your cooler and crack open a cold Imperial beer.

Sounds good, right? Even though the calendar hasn’t yet marked December 21st, the hot days are already here, and if you’re someone who enjoys escaping the city on weekends, this list is for you.

Here’s a plan for you: nature, fresh air, and relaxation. These recommended spots have lakes, are by the river, and are surrounded by plenty of greenery, so you can enjoy without straying too far from Buenos Aires City.

1. Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve in CABA

This green lung, spanning more than 350 hectares, is a popular summer destination for outdoor activities and different walking circuits. It offers guided tours, both day and night, and has 9.5 kilometers of trails. There are also two picnic areas, one right by the river. We recommend packing a cooler with Imperial cans (with water and salt, the best way to chill a beer) and some snacks to enjoy a peaceful afternoon outdoors. Don’t forget to take all your trash with you!

Note: The reserve is open Thursday to Sunday from 8 AM to 7 PM, and admission is free. Keep in mind that it’s closed if it rains.

Where: Av. Dr. Tristán Achával Rodríguez 1550, Puerto Madero.

2. Parque Paraná in La Lucila

This outdoor space offers unbeatable river views, perfect for enjoying a morning of mate – here are the best spots for mate in Buenos Aires – or an afternoon with a cold Imperial Golden beer that you can carry in your backpack or cooler. You can pair it with cheese and charcuterie or a good sandwich.

In this part of the river, there are restrooms, playgrounds for kids, and a walkway connecting it to the Vicente López Ecological Reserve. Accessing the riverbank is free, and there are parking docks just a few meters away.

Note: You can reach the Vicente López Ecological Reserve, which is full of biodiversity, just a 3-minute walk from here. It’s open Tuesday to Sunday.

Where: Paraná and the river, La Lucila.

3. Paseo de la Costa in Vicente López

Paseo de la Costa is a 2.5-kilometer route along the river with a bike path, volleyball, football, tennis, ping-pong courts, and even BMX tracks. Many people take advantage of the place to find their favorite spot, spread a blanket, and enjoy the afternoon near the water.

A great idea is to pack a basket with mate, some snacks, and why not some Imperial beer cans. If you choose the IPA, we recommend pairing it with a burger or something grilled. For the Roja, try a cheese or sandwich with caramelized onions or mushrooms. The place also has a pet-friendly area in case you’re bringing your four-legged friend.

Note: There is an electric bus that drops you off at the entrance if you don’t feel like walking back.

Where: The promenade stretches from Hipólito Yrigoyen Street to General Paz, Vicente López.

4. Parque Tres de Febrero in CABA

Better known as the Palermo Woods, this green space is one of the most important in Buenos Aires City. It has four lakes to enjoy being near the water and 29 plazas. It’s perfect for walking, biking, or rollerblading, and it’s also great for a picnic on hot days.

Although there are bars around, nothing beats spending a relaxing afternoon in direct contact with nature. If your picnic includes cheese, we recommend bringing an Imperial APA. If you're grilling something like a grilled flank steak sandwich, an Imperial Golden is a great choice.

Note: Within the Palermo Woods, there are several attractions to visit, such as the Palermo Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium.

Where: Sarmiento and Figueroa Alcorta, Palermo.

5. Parque Centenario

Located in Caballito, Parque Centenario was designed by the famous French landscape architect Carlos Thays. It spans 12 hectares and features flowers like jasmines, roses, and primroses, as well as araucarias and tipas. In the center of the park, there’s a lake with a small dock and a viewing platform. While many people come to walk or exercise, it’s also an ideal spot to relax, read a book, and enjoy a cold beer. An Imperial Extra Lager with a fruity aroma and fresh yet intense flavor is an excellent option.

Note: The park also has several attractions, including an amphitheater, a museum, a skate park, and even a soccer field.

Where: Franklin and Avenida Patricias Argentinas, Caballito.
