Since 1884, the Central Market of Mendoza has been a key point in the city, a place that blends the everyday with gastronomy. With access to three streets and managed by immigrants from its early days, it quickly became a space where the city grew and connected. The arrival of the railroad in 1885 multiplied its activity, linking travelers, producers, and merchants.

In 1991, the Central Market of Mendoza was declared a Tourist Attraction

And rightfully so: it's impossible to walk through its aisles without feeling the Mendoza energy. Today, it remains much more than just a market. It is a place where the freshness of the products is combined with quick breakfasts, lunch in the food court, or simple walks full of curiosity. Here, you can experience a bit of Mendoza's past and present, always present, always authentic.

In the following list, we share 8 must-see spots you can’t miss during your visit to the city’s most important market.

1. Gouher Chocolates and Alfajores

The Gouher stall stands out for its offer of chocolates from Ecuador and Peru, with local production in Mendoza. In addition to their irresistible alfajores and bonbons, they also offer products like honey, olive oil, and preserves. It is one of the newer stalls at the market but is among the most visited by those looking for the flavors of the province and quality gifts.

Fun fact: three recommended and award-winning products. The orange and 70% cocoa chocolate alfajor won best fruit-filled alfajor at the last Alfajor Festival 2024. The white chocolate one took second place in its category in 2023, and the raspberry one won third place as the best fruit-filled alfajor.

2. Torrent

Located in the middle of the market, further along the walk is Torrent, one of the few stalls that has been there since the market’s early years. This stall is known for its selection of cured meats, cheeses, and other typical products. The flavors of Argentina, and a few other countries, and the quality of the products make this place a reference point for those seeking the best of local gastronomy.

Right across from Torrent is the bakery, and we recommend grabbing some bread for your picnic. Then, you can head to one of the nearby squares for a more authentic Mendoza experience.

Fun fact: they offer delivery, so you can have your picnic delivered to your home or accommodation!
