There are duos that are truly unbeatable, like cheese and beer. There are other unforgettable duos like those we see in movies or series. And there are others, like an Imperial Cream Stout and a chocolate dessert, that may raise more questions than answers but will create loyal fans after the first bite. If we talk about seasonal stars, strawberries are a must and also pair very well with the intensity of a Cream Stout.

If you're not on team dark beer, team chocolate, or strawberries, this might not be the recommendation for you. But if you like these flavors and you're curious about this combination, we invite you to give it a try. Some say it's the best of both worlds: the intensity and sweetness of desserts (not just chocolate) and the creamy, lasting nature of a Cream Stout.

1. Mango and passionfruit cheesecake with strawberries at Unido

At this time of year, there's one ingredient that becomes the star of every table: strawberries. Whether in salads or desserts, they’re an excellent option to pair with an Imperial Cream Stout. The acidity and freshness of this seasonal fruit blend with the creaminess and sweetness of this type of beer.

To try this combination, we recommend ordering the mango and passionfruit cheesecake with strawberries, coconut crunch, kumquats, lemon mousse, and dehydrated strawberries at Unido, in Nordelta. We suggest getting a table outside and enjoying the dessert on one of the wooden decks with panoramic views and the warm spring sun.

Pro tip: This restaurant has a wide menu, ranging from simple dishes like burgers to a full bar of expertly crafted sushi rolls.

Where: Av. Nordelta 1670, Nordelta, Buenos Aires Province.

2. Chocolate lava cake at Yesca

There's no better pairing for an Imperial Cream Stout than chocolate: its toasted notes blend perfectly with the intensity of this ingredient. To try this duo, we recommend the chocolate lava cake at Yesca, a grill located in the northern area of Córdoba City.

This is a hearty dessert served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A detail: the lava cake also comes with a red fruit coulis, another ingredient that pairs beautifully with the Imperial Cream Stout. The restaurant also offers other desserts worth trying, like the Fruit Pavlova, ideal for pairing with an Imperial Golden.

Pro tip: Yesca has outdoor tables surrounded by trees, perfect for a lunch this time of year.

Where: Av. República de China 1420, Córdoba Capital.

3. Balcarce dessert at Cervecería Modelo

This is truly a plan worth trying. First, because of the exquisite dessert, and second, because it involves visiting a place with over 150 years of history. It started as one of the general stores of Mar del Plata and, over time, transformed into the restaurant it is today. It has several gems like its panettone, its Balcarce dessert, and its beers. The Balcarce, made with sponge cake, dulce de leche, chantilly cream, walnuts, meringue, and a secret touch, is one of the most ordered items on the menu. While many choose it to accompany coffee or hot chocolate, we suggest pairing it with an Imperial Cream Stout. Its toasted and caramel notes work wonderfully with the sweetness of this dessert.

Pro tip: For fans of the Christmas panettone tradition, Cervecería Modelo offers it all year round. It comes in three sizes, and we recommend pairing it with an Imperial IPA to enhance the flavor of the spices.

Where: Calle 5 and 54, La Plata, Buenos Aires Province.

4. Chocolate mousse at Casa Lucca

This is a neighborhood restaurant in Villa Devoto, perfect to visit on a sunny day since it has sidewalk tables surrounded by greenery. Most of the dishes on their menu have been part of our lives at some point, either through family recipes or flavors you probably tasted in your childhood. At Casa Lucca, you can enjoy a classic chocolate mousse with cream and strawberries and pair it with an Imperial Cream Stout. Again, chocolate is one of the best ingredients to pair with this creamy and intense beer with a medium sweetness. If mousse isn’t your thing, we suggest pairing the same beer with their house tiramisu (a highly promising duo).

Pro tip: Casa Lucca is just two blocks from Plaza Arenales, the most important green space in the neighborhood, ideal for a post-meal stroll.

Where: Asunción 4167, Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires.

5. La Querendona at La Mar Cebichería

This dessert is not for those who don’t like super sweet treats or get easily overwhelmed by sugar. It’s a moist chocolate cake, filled with dark chocolate fudge and dulce de leche, covered in chocolate sauce, cacao nibs, and quinoa praline.

With so much sweetness, there’s no better match than an Imperial Cream Stout, which helps balance the flavor and enhances the coffee notes in the beer. This pairing is featured on the menu at La Mar Cebichería, one of the restaurants of Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio in Buenos Aires. It’s the ideal spot to sample flavors and recipes from different regions of Peru.

Pro tip: The place offers a deck terrace, a dining room, and sidewalk tables. Before dessert, we recommend trying the ceviche and the causa limeña.

Where: Arévalo 2024, Palermo, Buenos Aires.

6. Cacao Waffle at Animal

There’s nothing like enjoying a meal by the Paraná River on a sunny day. Animal is the perfect spot to watch the sunset with a snack or something sweet on one of its wooden balconies with panoramic views. To pair with an Imperial Cream Stout, we suggest trying a house classic: the cacao waffle with vanilla ice cream, served with passionfruit or red fruit sauce. It’s a great companion for a beer that goes very well with chocolate and intense flavors. If you want to try a local flavor, we recommend the chipacueritos (fried dough) with an Imperial Golden.

Pro tip: If you sign up on Datazo, Imperial beer's gastronomic recommendation platform, you can get 2x1 beers at this location.

Where: Av. Costanera General San Martín 100, Corrientes Capital.
