If you’re looking for a city break that delivers on food, culture, and nightlife like you’ve never seen it before, we’ve got the place for you. Budapest, Hungary’s impeccably hip-yet-grown-up capital, has forged a name for itself as one of Europe’s most culturally significant cities, and for good reason. The city is famed for its ruin bars and magnificent outdoor bath spas, but there’s also a ton of opportunities for history, culture, shopping and lakeside wanders.

The Basilica, Parliament House and Buda Castle are must-visits on your trip, and it would be offensive not to get yourself a Langos (perhaps after a few drinks), Hungary’s famous snack of deep-fried bread covered in cheese.

And if Budapest wasn’t enticing enough already, it’s also got some cracking places to stay, from swish flats in the city center to secluded cabins in the forest. And they're all available on Airbnb. So whatever you’re looking for, experience the best of Buda (and Pest) with one of these apartments.

Updated October 2024: we've got two hot new properties on the roster, including a rooftop apartment and forest cabin. You're welcome.

There were many reasons to include this apartment on the list but one thing made it a certainty: the pool. Available May – September (gets a bit chilly after that), the open-air rooftop pool offers the chance to purely refresh after a go-go-go day around the city (we also think it would make a great part of a morning routine). The home itself is grand but in an understated way.
