This Italian neighbourhood restaurant is a firm favourite with the locals. Having won the accolade of best breakfast and best Italian restaurant at the Bristol Good Food awards three years in a row, its food is certainly good. So good, in fact, that it now has a second branch in the more central location of Colston Street.
But back to Clifton. This bright and airy restaurant is set over two floors with a cleverly positioned mezzanine and spiral staircase ensuring that the light travels down to the lower floor. Simple decor and wooden furniture make the perfect setting for a casual breakfast or lunch, while the clever use of lighting turns the restaurant into a cosy haven in the evening.
The menu is Italian, and very vegetarian friendly, although not exclusively so. The menu changes on a daily basis, making the most of fresh, local and seasonal produce, but antipasti designed for sharing, risottos, pasta, gnocchi and homemade bread are almost guaranteed to make an appearance. This is affordable, simple cooking at its best. Make sure you leave room for pudding too, even if it’s just for an affogato!
