Michelin-starred Bristol restaurant finds new home

A Michelin starred restaurant has revealed that it will be relocating from Westbury-on-Trym to a new location, at Bristol's new waterfront development, The General.

Last month, restaurant Casamia claimed the honour of being the only Bristol restaurant to make the Good Food Guide's Top 50 Restaurants of 2016. It's also one of just two venues within the city (the other is Wilks Restaurant in Redland) to be awarded a Michelin star and win Bristol Good Food's award for 'Best Restaurant' three years in a row.

Casamia is a family restaurant run by two chefs, brothers Peter and Jonray Sanchez-Iglesias, who inherited the business (where they've worked since they were teenagers) from their parents in 2006.

Formerly an Italian trattoria, the brothers gained the attention of Michelin when they focused the menu on seasonal British produce shortly after taking over.

A modestly sized restaurant, Casamia has long been looking to move on from the place it has called home since 1999. Late in August, Jonray revealed on Twitter that Casamia will be setting up within the grade II listed building on Guinea Street, which was formerly Bristol General Hospital.

Since then, Jonray has revealed that the new Casamia will have a private dining room and test kitchen for 'behind scenes development', and that every table in the restaurant will have a view of the open kitchen as at the original Casamia.

Casamia will open in its new home on January 15, 2016 and will be located on the bottom floor of the building.
