If you've left it late to get mother dearest something for Mother's Day or just can't face the bog-standard bouquet, chocolates and fancy meal options, then here's a helpful little guide for enjoying Mother's Day in Bristol this Sunday.

Take her for a spa day
There’s a wealth of fantastic treatment rooms in Bristol, but none so fancy as the Lido, nestled away in Clifton. This beautiful historic Victorian spa underwent an extensive refurbishment before re-opening in 2008, and now boasts an open-air swimming pool, luxurious spa and award-winning restaurant. Treatments don’t come cheap, but they certainly are worth every penny. If you're strapped for cash, just pop in for a cup of tea and a bite to eat and watch the swimmers go by.

Go sightseeing
If your mum's visiting from outside Bristol, why not show her what our fine city has to offer? Hop on the Bristol Ferry and take a trip down to the Cottage, have a pint of shandy in the sunshine and take the trip back up to Brunel's ss Great Britain. From there you can hop on the open-top tour bus and take in iconic sights such as the Suspension Bridge, Clifton Downs and St Mary Redcliffe church.

Take her for an epic roast
If there’s one thing Bristol does well, it’s heavenly food on Our Day of Roast. Thank your mum for all those roast dinners she’s ever cooked you by tucking into some proper pub grub at some of Bristol’s finest. Highlights include The Old BookshopThe Christmas Steps and The Hillgrove Porter Stores. If you’ve left it this late to book a table then you’d better hurry, but you never know, you might get lucky on the day.

Cycle around one of our amazing parks
If open-top buses and ferry boats aren’t for you, how about packing a picnic, hiring a couple of bikes and taking a jaunt up to Ashton Court? Cycle around the grounds, spot the deer in the field next door, and from there there’s a wealth of countryside at your feet, including the breathtaking Leigh Woods.

Stop off at the market
Everyone loves a good market on a Sunday and in Bristol we’re spoiled for choice. As well as the huge market at St Philips Fruit Centre every weekend from 9am-3pm, there’s the delightful community market at the Tobacco Factory, home to a wealth of delicious food and handcrafted goods. Treat your mum to a bunch of flowers (if you must) and an amazing Jamaican patty.

Prove to your mum you're not as wild as some Bristol inhabitants
Without a doubt one of the best attractions in the city is Bristol Zoo. There’s a fantastic offer on this weekend with mums going free to visit some of their amazing animal mums, including Poppy the penguin and her two chicks born just after Christmas and Salome the gorilla with her two little ones, Komale and Kukena. Baby gorillas! What’s not to love?
