For keen cyclists, this popular stretch of cycle path offers a pleasant ride for a sunny afternoon. Starting just past Temple Meads, this 13 mile stretch of mainly flat pathway meanders its way down the old railway line – now a natural haven for all sorts of wildlife – and stop right in the centre of beautiful Bath. Stop off for a well-deserved ice cream half way at Warmley Services, you won't be disappointed!

Learning all about Bristol’s rich social and industrial heritage might not sound the most romantic way to spend a day, but your date will be won over by the brilliant M Shed. Locate your house on the giant map on the floor, learn more about the history of your local area, take a 'ride' an authentic Bristol bus, check out the ex-Thekla Banksy, or step outdoors to spot a steam train pootle along the harbour if you’re lucky.

This time of year provides an excellent opportunity to spot a passing balloon or two, especially with the Bristol Balloon Fiesta coming up in August. Pick a tall hill in Bristol –  Victoria Park or Perrett’s Park, both south of the river, are an excellent bet – and marvel in wonder at the passing ‘floatilla’ of bright balloons.
