Thought finding vegan Mexican food in Brisbane was near impossible? Think again! El Planta has been dishing up a changing roster of zingy and fresh Mexican eats since 2020. The stylish South Brisbane venue specialises in tacos with all the fillings - think meat substitutes like red chilli jackfruit, braised mushroom, eggplant ‘chorizo’, roasted cauliflower and beer battered ‘fish’ served in traditional homemade tortillas loaded up with guac, mayo, slaw, queso, salsas and spiced sauces. And don’t skip the small plates, which include fan favourites like vegan queso and chips, tostadas, and parmesan and chipotle fried corn ribs. To top it off, try an El Planta margarita, flavoured with everything from lime, smoked salt, agave, pickled jalapeno, chilli syrup, and grilled pineapple.
Must try: the spiced corn ribs are pretty good. As are the fish tacos. Actually, just try it all, and wash it down with a marg (or two).
