Time Out says

Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience—aka “zoo lights,” colloquially—returns more boldly and brightly than ever. The illuminating experience at Franklin Park Zoo has expanded its footprint in the park this year, with new, forested areas decked out in light displays. The annual event features all-new immersive walkthroughs, enchanting interactive elements and photo opportunities at every turn.

As is appropriate for a zoo, some of the displays are animal themed. Watch out for elephants, monkeys and rhinos! A magical ocean tunnel leads to an underwater paradise teeming with vibrant jellyfish, majestic sea turtles and a stunning, 115-foot octopus. Elsewhere, you’ll discover colorful butterflies, blooming buds and luminous blossoms; an erupting volcano; and traditional lanterns and displays inspired by Chinese and Indian cultures.

The installation has a conservation mission, too. With all lanterns illuminated by energy-saving LED lights, curators aim to educate visitors about the biodiversity and the importance of wildlife and habitat preservation.

Boston Lights: A Lantern Experience runs from August 2–November 3 at Franklin Park Zoo. The hours are 6–10:30pm through September 30 and 5-10:30pm in October and November. Tickets are required for people over age 2. They are $28 per person or $98 for a group of four.
