The elegant 3,600-seat Wang Theatre—part of the Boch Center complex—is the big daddy of all Boston theatres. Originally known as the Metropolitan Theatre, the Wang opened in 1925, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it maintains one of the largest stages in all of America. A huge restoration project in the late 1980s and early '90s restored the theatre's stunning gilt-trimmed interior to its former glory, and today it hosts everything from Broadway hits to Shakespeare, along with ballet, opera and the occasional pop concert. Behind-the-scenes tours are available to the public; check the tours page for more info.
