How does an unassuming, food truck-inspired brick-and-mortar become one of the most lauded restaurants in the city? Let’s start with the Double Awesome, a lunchtime sandwich unlike any other: pesto, cheddar and two slow-poached-then-fried eggs bookended by two scallion pancakes. Next: a handful of American-Chinese eats reinterpreted by sibling owners Andrew, Margaret and Irene Li (“mei mei” means “little sister” in Chinese); local veggies and sustainable meats and fish elevate dishes like honey walnut shrimp and lamb jajang noodles. Northeastern and BU students refuel with the nighttime to-go menu, which includes ham fried rice and pierogi dumplings as well as the aforementioned Double Awesome.
