Not your typical Thai menu, Mahaniyom is modeled after a type of bar serving street food in the owners’ native country. From “Boong” Boonnak, Smuch Saikamthorn and a team of Thai expats, there’s a streamlined selection of sweet and savory dishes alongside dazzling cocktails. Don’t overlook the chalkboard specials (go for the oysters with chili jam and crispy shallots) while planning a family-style celebration of authentic Thai flavors. Beef panang with rich, nutty house-made curry; spicy mushroom salad (plaa hed) and crispy fried chicken skin are some of the most memorable dishes. Cocktails combine Asian flavors with classic techniques, as in the signature Mahaniyom Sazerac with Thai tea-infused rye. The cozy Brookline Village bar has eight seats plus a few tables, and also accommodates some takeout. In 2024, the team debuted Merai, a Thai take on an Boston-style pub.
