A Route 1 North landmark in Saugus, The Kowloon is a massive Chinese restaurant with an outsize impact in the Boston area. Family-owned for more than 70 years, it's a true tiki-style spot with an expansive, pan-Asian American menu and cocktails. The owners have said the next generation is not taking over, so The Kowloon's days are numbered in its current form. (Plans call to shrink the restaurant from 1,200 to 350 seats and build housing on the site, according to reports.) Its glory days may be behind it, but The Kowloon is a real experience worth checking out while you still can.
