National Tequila Day is this Sunday, July 24 and there are plenty of ways to celebrate here in Boston. We’ve rounded up our favorite places to grab a crisp margarita, a great recipe to make at home and a new local tequila-based seltzer to try if you want something a bit lighter. And if you want to stick to the tequila theme all week, check out our guide to the Best Mexican Restaurants in Boston

1) Grab a margarita to cool down at one of these hot spots

Of course, the best way to celebrate National Tequila Day is with a round of margaritas (or two or three!). One of the best places in Boston to enjoy a margarita is Lolita Fort Point. Since margaritas are best enjoyed with friends, go for a pitcher of any of their signature varieties. If you have never been, the “Spicy Cucumber” is especially worth a try; it is just everything the doctored order for a summer day—spicy, refreshing and delicious.

If you plan on spending the day in the Back Bay, check out Citrus & Salt. Try the “Tequila is Cheaper than Therapy”, which is made with Ghost tequila, mango jalapeño puree, agave, cucumber and lime, which is garnished with a chili-lime salt rim. Finally, if you will be brunching in the South End on Sunday, swing by Cosmica’s beautiful courtyard for one of their tasty frozen margs as well!

2) Whip up a margarita at home

Popular Mexican spot, Rosa Mexicano, has shared their Watermelon Del Sol Margarita recipe with us so that we can imbibe perhaps at a backyard cookout or at the pool this weekend.

3) Try Viva Seltzer

If you want to enjoy National Tequila Day with something a bit lighter, Viva Seltzer is worth a try. A Boston-based seltzer brand, Viva is made with premium blanco tequila and has 88 calories, 0g sugar, 0g carbs and is gluten free. With 4.5% ABV, Viva is a nice low-alcohol choice for the summer.
