Voice of Boston is our series where we interview local tastemakers on their favorite neighborhoods, restaurants and hangouts around the city. If you missed our last one, read our chat with Meghan Houle, host of the Pivot with Purpose Podcast.
This week we are headed to the South End to speak with Colton Coburn-Wood, Executive Chef at Cosmica.
What are your favorite neighborhoods in Boston?
My favorite neighborhoods in Boston are Dorchester, the South End, and Chinatown: Dorchester because of the incredible Vietnamese food and because it’s where I really got my start and met my wife, Emma. I love the South End for its dining scene, and it’s a reminder of my line cooking days. And Chinatown for the food!
Where do you go for a late-night bite?
Best late-night spot is absolutely Peach Farm in Chinatown.
In general, what are some of your favorite restaurants and bars right now?
My favorite bar right now and always is Delux in the South End. For favorite restaurants, I would need to expand to “Greater Boston,” I love Sarma and Oleana. I also really love Coppa and Five Spices House.
Name a “hidden gem” where you always take friends or family when they are visiting from out of town.
Two of my favorite hidden gems were Gourmet Dumpling House on Beach Street and Anh Hong in Dorchester (the most delicious Vietnamese food). Both have recently closed but I’m always on the search for their exciting, new replacements!
Where is your favorite place to go for a walk in the city?
My favorite place to go on a walk in the city is Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester. It’s on the Neponset and has pretty views.
What do you think is the best thing about Boston right now?
The amount of independent restaurants that are popping up in the city! It’s exciting to see our community come together and continue to support local.
What is your go-to Dunkin Donuts coffee order?
My go to Dunkin order is a medium hot black coffee and a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant. Also, those mini filled bagels are fun to eat!
