Finally, everyone around the country will know about the culinary excellence that takes center stage at Sullivan's Castle Island, a Boston institution that was just awarded the prestigious 2025 James Beard America's Classics Award, an honor reserved for regional establishments "celebrated for their quality food, local character and enduring appeal," according to an official press release.

The destination was originally founded by Dan Sullivan, Sr. as a hot dog stand back in 1951. Fast-forward over seven decades and the business has evolved into a seasonal landmark that has been continuously operated by four generations of the Sullivan family, dishing out signature burgers, hot dogs, lobster rolls and locally sourced seafood, among many other delicacies, to locals and tourists alike.

In addition to its seasonal outpost on Castle Island, the business also operates a restaurant in Hanover year-round, offering the same sort of top-notch dishes to the masses.

"Everyone has a Sullivan’s story," said Brendan Sullivan, the current owner of Sullivan's Castle Island, in an official statement commenting on the much-deserved award. "It’s not just a meal. It’s an experience, an institution. This recognition reinforces our commitment to not only honor our past but also to embrace the future. We’re dedicated to expanding our offerings and reaching new patrons, all while keeping the spirit of old Boston alive for every customer who walks through our doors."

Needless to say, as city dwellers, we are incredibly proud of this recognition—especially considering that the James Beard Foundation only gives out six such awards each year!
