As Massachusetts continues to emerge from months of lockdown, the first step of Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan began on July 6. The city of Boston opted to delay its start of Phase 3 a week, to July 13, and Somerville decided to wait until July 20 to kick off its Phase 3.) Movie theaters, gyms and museums (find out reopening dates here) can now reopen under occupancy limits and other measures meant to promote distancing and sanitation.
High-risk businesses — most notably bars and nightclubs — won’t be allowed to reopen until Phase 4, which Gov. Baker claims will not begin until there is an effective treatment or vaccine. (Restaurants and retail stores reopened under numerous restrictions as part of Phase 2, which began on June 8.)
Here's what can resume during Phase 3:
Libraries
Casinos
Gyms and fitness centers
Movie theaters
Museums
Theaters and performance venues
Sightseeing and tours
Professional sports without spectators
And this is what awaits for Phase 4:
Amusement parks
Large-capacity venues
Bars and nightclubs
Overnight summer camps
Arcades
Street festivals, parades and agricultural festivals
Road races and other large, outdoor organized athletic events
