Chef Thiago Silva, who has not only won both Beat Bobby Flay and Chopped, but also baked for John Legend, Iris Apfel, Derek Jeter and Brooke Shields, opened his first Boston-area restaurant this past weekend.

SALT Patisserie is located at 792 Beacon Street in Newton Centre’s Piccadilly Square. His French training and Brazilian roots both shine through. Customers will find his popular baked goods like muffins, cookies, macarons and plenty of other pastries alongside La Colombe Coffee.

While Chef Silva may be known as a baker for the stars, he is quite the culinary star himself. He won the first all-baking Chopped back in 2015 and has also claimed victory in the Dessert Games and Beat Bobby Flay. He has also appeared on Sugar Rush and Chopped Sweets on Netflix. Now, he's excited to focus on his new venture here in Massachusetts.

“I’ve always dreamt of running a patisserie that brings together delicious pastry and a true sense of community. Opening my first Boston-area bakery in the town where I am raising my family feels like a natural extension of myself. I am so proud to open the doors to SALT and show our neighbors what we’ve been working on for the past year,” said Silva.

Silva is bringing his Brazilian heritage into the flavors at SALT. Some of the must-try items this summer include: the “Romeo and Juliette Croissant”, which is a twist on a classic Brazilian pastry made with white cheese and guava paste inside flaky puff pastry; “Pao de Queijo”, a gluten-free cheese bread; and “Quatro Leites Cake”, which is Silva’s take on a tres leches including homemade dulce de leche.

The menu will change with the seasons at SALT, but one constant will be La Colombe Coffee. The signature La Colombe draft system is currently being put in place, but soon their popular draft cold brew and lattes will be available.

SALT Patisserie is currently open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm but hours are expected to expand in the near future. There is also a patio and chocolate program in the works.
