What’s the weekend forecast in Boston?

According to the National Weather Service, an “impactful” winter storm will hit the city and southern New England late Saturday into Sunday. How much snow is still up in the air, but it is looking like the plows will be out this weekend

How much snowfall will we see and where?

WBZ is predicting snowfall from western Massachusetts to Boston, with Worchester likely seeing around six inches. The coastline is more likely to see a mix of rain and snow, but all locations away from the coast have a 75% chance of seeing plowable snow. This probably isn’t going to be a massive storm, but we will see a decent amount of snow and wind.

It looks like the heaviest snowfall will start late in the evening Saturday and continue through midday Saturday, tapering off in the late afternoon. We should see the heaviest snowfall during the first half of the day on Sunday, but there is still considerable uncertainty on snow amounts, including the location of the rain/snow line.

Fingers crossed for a light and fluffy snowfall!

A few ways to stay warm and cozy during the storm

Assuming the storm isn’t bigger than expected, you may want to bundle up, head out into the snow, toss a few snowballs and get a warming drink or dinner.

Alcove’s Wine Cellar Saturdays are kicking off this Saturday, so you can sip some Napa wines while watching the snow fall.   Try some special Sonoma wines this Saturday, 2pm at Alcove, paired with tasty bites by Chef Mark Cina (reservations recommended).

Atlantico will be offering $2 oysters during lunch and brunch, and then nightly from 4-6:30pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thistle & Leek in Newton is offering the coziest Sunday supper for two. For $90, you and your friend can share cassoulet with venison sausage, duck confit, flageolet beans and more

Feeling the chill? Head over to Loretta’s Last Call in Fenway, as they’re offering a warming and decadent hot chocolate bar on Saturday and Sunday. This starts at $8, and can be upgraded to a boozy hot cocoa!

The Lexington will offer a three-Course, prix-fixe neighborhood menu for $45 that includes an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert on both Saturday and Sunday starting at 4pm, with grilled salmon and braised short rib.

Back Bay bistro Rochambeau will be offering dollar oysters all day Saturday and Sunday to help stave off the storm blues.

Will public transportation be affected?

It’s too early to call for a shutdown, which is extremely unlikely, but a service slowdown could happen. Sign up for T alerts on the MBTA website, and you’ll get texts on your phone about any outages. You also may want to bookmark their alerts page and check the schedule before leaving the house.

What can people do to stay safe?

On the off chance this storm is bigger than expected, consider this your reminder to charge your cell phone, check the batteries in your flashlight (you should have a flashlight!) and make sure you have enough pet food and medication (for you and your pets) to last a few days.
