It’s not every day that a dilapidated motor lodge is reborn as a trendy boutique hotel — well, outside of Los Angeles, anyway. Indeed, the Verb is about as close to LA as Boston gets, with its midcentury furniture, Mondrian stained glass windows and — when the weather allows — poolside scene. The room furnishings are simple, with fun, funky accoutrements such as rotary phones, vintage speakers, local music ephemera, and framed covers of the city’s since-departed alt-weekly. Live music is a regular occurrence in both the lobby and pool area, the better to send you off to dinner at Hojoko, the hotel’s izakaya and tropical drink den. Plan to take in a Red Sox game? Fenway Park is just around the corner; even if the Sox aren’t in town, you can take a guided tour of the ballpark.
