Time Out says

Found in the Playa de Poniente district, the Mercure Benidorm is a luxurious spot for exploring the best parts of town. Combining a modern aesthetic with beachy textures, the hotel channels its Costa Blanca location through a neutral cream colour palette, rattan seating and indoor olive trees, while rooms themselves have large comfortable beds, marble bathrooms and massive mirrors that allow the light to bounce around. They vary between Spacious, bright rooms, exclusive penthouses and duplexes overlooking the Mediterranean-feeling swimming pool (with its own bar). On-site gym facilities are available for early risers looking to get a workout in before the substantial breakfast spread. While there are plenty of great restaurants nearby, the hotel’s Malaspina specialises in deliciously fresh seafood served on large sharing dishes that are perfect for couples on romantic trips.

Neighbourhood

On your doorstep is the quiet Poniente Beach, and even though the old town is a slightly longer walk away, its beautiful churches, winding beachfront lanes and famous tapas are worth the journey. If views are your thing, head on over to Balcón del Mediterranean or Mirador del Castillo and see if you can spot Benidorm Island.

Nearby

  1. Platgeta del Mal Pas: A quiet, neighbourhood beach that’s tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Benidorm’s main drag.
  2. Església de Sant Jaume i Santa Anna: Catholic church from the 1700s, with stunning views over the cliff edge out to the sea.
  3. La Cava Aragonesa: Tapas Alley institution serving 100 different tapas and pinchos (baguette slices with different toppings).

Time Out tip

A sunset stroll along Tossal de la Cala is the best spot for a bird’s-eye view over the mini-Manhattan of Benidorm. Some of the earliest traces of human inhabitation in the area were discovered on this rock, check them out between snapping pictures of the glowing pink skyline.
