Barcelona is certainly not short on incredible sights but there is something particularly pleasing about getting a new perspective on a place. A visit to the Mirador torre Glòries provides just that, thanks to its 125-metre high observation deck. What’s more, the building itself, designed by Jean Nouvel, is one of the city’s modern architectural icons, and it now also houses a one-off art installation and the chance to see an interpretation of Barcelona created with data collected in real time – together all these features make up a complete and unforgettable Barcelona experience. Come with us to discover why a visit to the Mirador torre Glòries has to be on your to-do list.

Hyperview Barcelona

Begin your visit with Hyperview Barcelona, found at the bottom of the Mirador torre Glòries. This is a viewing point with a difference. For starters, you won’t find any windows there but instead a version of Barcelona made up of artistic installations that are based on real-time data. It’s a dynamic, original way to contemplate this Mediterranean capital, one that takes you beyond the familiar façades and first impressions. By combining technology and creativity, this space highlights Barcelona’s facet as a living, ever-changing place. Appreciate the energy that makes Barcelona so enticing, and experience a global city like you never have before!

Panoramic views

Continue by taking the fast lift up to the Observation Deck on the 30th floor. From here, you can absorb every angle of Barcelona from high above the key city hub of Plaça Glòries. Take in the wavy hills of Collserola, the shimmering waters of the Med and countless city landmarks, like the still-growing Sagrada Família, medieval towers, and contemporary skyscrapers. Spot the different neighbourhoods, from the narrow, winding streets of the old town to the neat grid of the Eixample and beyond, and the thoroughfares that keep everyone moving between them. Take your time, and enjoy the special beauty and magic of Barcelona from this privileged position.

‘Cloud Cities Barcelona’

Complete your tour with this interactive, multi-layered work by Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno, which provides yet another way of seeing Barcelona and the world at large. Hanging from the very top of the tower, ‘Cloud Cities Barcelona’ features a web of pathways, distinctive shapes and 113 spaces where you can sit and read (a range of books is available), think and chat. Based on Saraceno’s long-running Cloud Cities study, the aims of the sculpture include challenging both the tower’s vertical nature and the idea of what an observation deck is, offering us a new way to interact with others, and making us consider our role in cities, communities and the wider environment.
