Time Out says

The countdown to the new year is marked by the last 12 chimes of the bell at midnight, which everyone in town takes extremely seriously. It’s important to hear each chime, as you’ve got to eat one grape with each one for a total of 12 grapes in all to get yourself good luck in the new year. On December 31 Barcelona celebrates New Year’s Eve chimes of the clock eating one grape with each chime around the Magic Fountains in Montjuïc, on Av. Reina María Cristina; it’s a great time with old and new friends as you welcome in 2018. As usual the celebration features the 12 grapes, which this year are represented by giant grapevine structures and in the fireworks show, lighting design and even the soundtrack, which for the first time in an outdoor space uses a multi-channel technology to get surround sound. The party starts at 9.30pm and includes music shows and light and colour effects to make the last night of the year a singular and surprising one for all.
