From March 8 to May 30, 2015, Barcelona is the world piano capital with the 61st edition of the Maria Canals International Music Competition. To open the event to the people around the city, the festival fills certain areas of Barcelona with pianos, such as on Passeig de Gràcia, with 'El Maria Canals porta Cua al Passeig de Gràcia' ('The Maria Canals Competition brings grand pianos to Passeig de Gràcia'), where, on March 14, ten grand pianos stand along the street, from Plaça Catalunya to the Jardinets, so anyone who wants can take a turn at them, between 11am and 8pm. In case of rain, the event will be moved to March 21.
You will also find pianos in El Born Cultural Centre (March 15), La Pedrera (March 16), the Palau Robert (March 17), the Gran Teatre del Liceu (March 19), MNAC (March 21) and the Palau de la Música Catalana (March 25), among other places around town. In addition, between March 14 and 25, the Palau de la Música Catalana will feature three Bösendorfer and Yamaha grand pianos in the foyer of the Petit Palau available to fans who want to play. And in Plaça Reial there will be a piano marathon on March 13, from noon to 9pm.
