Time Out says

Traditions are still alive and kicking in Catalonia, and proof of that are the many age-old traditional dances still being performed throughout the region today, known as 'dances vives'. They're the stars of MercèDansa, an event first organised in 1993 by the cultural preservation group Esbart Català de Dansaires. La Mercè presents the perfect opportunity to revel in this uniqely Catalan celebration. Public recitals take place in front of Barcelona Cathedral at 11am and at Plaça Sant Jaume at 6pm. It's your chance to join in later (7.30pm) when the Cobla Sabadell plays the music for the Galop de la Mercè, a dance specifically designed for the festival.
