This is a building that exemplifies the idea of contrasting ideas. Commissioned to Salvador Valeri i Pupurull between 1906-1911 by Mr. Comalat, Casa Comalat represents many different faces of the modernisme period. The side that faces Avinguda Diagonal is completely stone and shows typical modernisme characteristics with large balconies and intricate stonework. On the contrary, the other side presents an ornate look with colorful ceramic and green trim outlining the windows. And since it’s creation about 100 years ago, it has changed very little, making it one of the least modified modernisme buildings. If you can, try and peak through the door to see the inside, which has a beautiful wooden staircase and stained glass.
