Welcome to the second edition of Africa Moment, an international event featuring stage arts from contemporary Africa, on in various venues around Barcelona from May 24 to June 2. With dance as a common thread, the festival, which aims to be an approach to the diverse, contemporary, pluralistic Africa of today, sets out to generate spaces for creation and reflection through the body, for the dignification, visibility, positioning and promotion of African creations within the national and international contemporary art market.
Watch for performances such as the Spanish premiere of 'Chombotrope' by Jitta Collective at the Mercat de les Flors, and 'Trayectoria del polvo VII' from She Poems Tanzania at the Can Felipa civic centre. You can also check out a screening of the award-winning documentary 'Sacred Water' at the Filmoteca, with special appearance by director Olivier Jourdain; see the documentary 'Cantadoras. Memories of Life and Death in Colombia', with special appearance by director Maria Fernanda Carrillo, at the Centre Bonnemaison (Sant Pere Més Baix, 7).
Africa Moment '18 also means dance classes as well as others teaching other types of creative endeavours, featuring special guest artists. Learn voguing, Afrofusion dance from Tanzania, the Acogny dance technique, movement workshops, and more. The closing programme takes place in the Can Felipa civic centre, where you can see dance and theatre performances, as well as catch a concert from Betina Quest from Burundi, and hear music from Cheb Lila. At the Angara Space in the Can Felipa you can sample central African food, see a photo exhibition, and buy books related to the African continent and its reaches.
