What should an artist do – remain faithful to his or her ideals, or betray them in order to ensure success? Should artists sacrifice themselves to their own principles, or should they choose to survive by adapting to the needs of the community? The author Ayn Rand answered these questions in her 1943 best-selling novel that focuses on the struggle between individualism and collectivism, not only in the political arena but also, and above all, in the human soul. Ivo van Hove, director of Roman Tragedies, one of the biggest hits of the Grec Festival in 2013, brings Rand’s text to the stage. (In Dutch, with surtitles in Catalan.)
