Probably the cheapest, best restaurant in Barcelona if home cooking and grilled fish is what you’re after. Proof of this are the queues of backpackers, starved artists and buskers from the Raval that pile in here every lunchtime and evening. Romesco is a wonderful glory hole of an eatery, but their fried cod is renowned far and wide (especially given the miserly 5€ that it costs). For the braver diners amongst you, they also serve fried calf’s head. But I warn you: they serve it whole. Among the classics, their grilled squid is beyond compare. And one of the cooks looks like a character from an Asterix book.
