La Mar Salada has positioned itself in recent years as one of the leading seafood restaurants in Barcelona. Earning the praise are former ElBulli chef Marc Singla, pastry chef Albert Enrich, and Marta Cid, who inherited the family business and runs the dining room with friendliness and flair the likes you don't always see these days. Together they decided that cuisine from the sea wasn't all about seafood paella and fish 'suquet' (stew), but that it's also about a creative and respectful way of treating the marine products that are often caught a few meters from the premises. Although their menu no longer features the much-missed 'mar i muntanya' rice dish, you will find spectacular stews and paellas, like their black rice and the 'de senyoret' rice with razorfish, monkfish and prawns. The desserts are praiseworthy: layered pastry with white chocolate ganache and rosemary and honey ice cream, warm apple tatin with chantilly cream, and whatever you do, someone in your party needs to order the Catalan cream foam with citrus.
