Josemi Benítez – originally from Galicia but who's lived in Barcelona since he was eight years old – is a journalist with plenty of experience working in Central America. He and his brother Ibrahim, a computer scientist, turned to the (secret) recipe of the Galician empanada to survive the financial crisis they found was affecting their chosen professions. And what a great decision that turned out to be. At El Club de la Empanada, a small bar that was transformed into a veritable empanada facotry, the clientele enjoys classic recipes (tuna, octopus) as well as newer inventions such as the prawns with 'orujo' liqueur and chocolate chips and the popular 'mental' empanada. You'll also get a well-poured cold beer on tap at this family eatery.
