For days I'd had a craving for some good pasta, so I went to Due Spaghi hoping to sort myself out. Using that craving to guide me, I skipped over the set lunch menu and went straight to the à la carte one. There's nothing better than filling your boots to get your stomach ready for the upcoming holiday binge-eating season. What they call 'starters' at Due Spaghi took me on a tasting journey through a polenta taragna croquette, Ripollès cheese, red pepper jam and smoked ricotta, and a few roll-ups made from of bresaola with green apple, sun-dried tomato and romesco sauce, a perfect example of the Italo-Catalan fusion that Nicoletta, Toni and Paolo strive for.
Next up... the pasta! Bear in mind that pasta options don't crowd Due Spaghi's menu. For example, you might order rabbit; polenta with vanilla and beetroot; or mushroom, Ripollès cheese and pumpkin risotto.
The pasta I ordered, which I nearly begged for, was the Spaghi Due Spaghi. The chef decides, and the chef's decision for me was a fresh pasta with creamy gorgonzola sauce, caramelized nuts and chicory. It was so magnificent that I had to stop myself from running into the kitchen and throwing myself into the pot. I accompanied that with a glass of Montereales wine, from the Campania region. For dessert, a very creamy tiramisu and coffee with home-made grappa from Barolo. Auguri, ragazzi!
