If you've every walked along C/Bonavista, you've likely come across a little corner featuring light wood and plants, with three stools and a short and small bar that invites you to stop and have a look. This is the exit of Bar But, an nice space where you can have a snack and a few drinks. It used to be hidden and dark, and Oriol – who comes from a restaurant background and who, despite his youth, knows exactly what he's doing – decided to open the bar to the street with a striking window that's the banner of the place. He also discovered a false ceiling that, once lifted, brought fresh air to the room and breathed more life into it.
The décor is really nice as well: pretty lights, chairs recycled from a French school, a table from a nearby factory in Garrotxa, and aromatic plants livening up the centre. Bar But’s atmosphere is warm and cosy: they favour easy music and treating their clientel well, with no raucousness. It's a great place to take a break from a busy day. At lunchtime they reinvent the set lunch menu with a three-dish formula – soup, salad and a main dish, often fresh fish – that includes a drink and dessert or coffee and is a big hit with the customers.
The chef, Jordi, a graduate from the Hoffman school, works carefully with high-quality ingredients, and you notice it in the food. The snack menu spans ham croquettes to brie with truffle, a burger made of quinoa that looks fantastic, and a very popular salmon tartare.
A gorgeous Mahou beer is on top, and they know how to pour, so even beer connoisseurs will be impressed (they've also got a craft beer menu).
