Born in New York's Harlem and resident in Chicago, Robert 'Bobby' Broom Jr is one of the most brilliant and in-demand guitarists of his generation. Everyone from drummer Art Blakey to saxophonist Sonny Rollins (who he participated with on the series 'Road Shows' and who he's collaborated with since 1981) has requested him as their right-hand man in their rhythm section. Broom has his own trio, and he's also got this project featuring an organ, which is what you'll see tonight for the first time in Jamboree. With Ben Patterson in charge of the legendary Hammond B3, and Makaya McCraven on drums, Broom shows off his mastery of combining in his own compositions lessons he's learned from inspirations as diverse as Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Lonnie Smith, Sonny Rollins and even Steely Dan.
