The New York Dolls played Sidecar for the venue's 25th anniversary back in 2007, and they declared it to be either just like the iconic seat of punk, no wave and post-punk, CBGB, in New York, or a version of hell. Coming from the Dolls, this of course was a compliment. The concert, dance and drinks venue in Plaça Reial is still the below-ground temple of indie rock in Barcelona. If its walls could talk, they'd tell unmentionable tales of the US Sixth Fleet in the 1970s, and much better (or worse) stories of locals on a big night out. Long may it roll.
