A genius and a character, Jerry González is one of the icons representing what is known as Latin jazz. Brought up between the asphalt of New York and the aromas of the Caribbean that shaped his Puerto Rican identity, he owes as much to musicals sources like Chano Pozo, Machito and Arsenio Rodríguez as he does to Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. The legacy of the Fort Apache Band with his brother Andy is one that should never be forgotten, and the time he has spent in Madrid – and now Vigo – has also established a very special link with flamenco. His return to Jamboree as part of a top-class trio (along with Javier Colina on double bass and Marc Miralta on drums) brings us a bop-style session that won’t, however, lose sight of the flavour and warmth of rhythm.
