This Saturday there's a legend of rock in town at the Let's Festival with New Model Army, a foundational band for understanding post punk and sinister rock, though they never became a household name like The Cure or Bauhaus. The group from Bradford, England, led by the charismatic Justin Sullivan, come to L'Hospitalet (you can get there by metro!) to celebrate their 40-year career. Tracks like 'On the Hunt', 'White Coats', 'Vagabonds' and '51st State' have influenced artists who play everthing from extreme metal to folk. And in fact, Sullivan's politicised lyrics are prophetic: his songs about pandemics escaping from a laboratory ('White Coats'), refugee camps ('Here Comes the War'), and a United Kingdom sucking up to the United States ('51st State') are from '80s and '90s, and they're all about what's happening today. And the new album, 'From Here' (2019), definitely holds up.
Opening for them are Las Novias, a Spanish sinister rock band. Be sure to get there early so you don't miss their hit 'Cerca de ti'.
