Although in the late '90s, just as she was about to turn 20, Jenny Hval was singing with a goth metal band called Shellyz Raven, the musical career of this Norwegian singer didn't officially take off until 2006 when she released her first EP as well as her debut LP. In the albums that have followed, she's been polishing her sound and it's been evolving, and now she's released her fifth album, 'Apocalypse Girl' (2015), this summer. It's full of art-pop that's original and provocative, more deconstructed than ever, and with melodies that come out of abstraction and travel along the same paths as music by Björk or FKA Twigs.
