Born in Harlem and daughter of the great bluesman Johnny Copeland, Shemekia Copeland has continued the family tradition by becoming one of the genre's leaders in the 21st century – she has been given the moniker of 'Queen of Blues' by her peers. Her latest disc, '33 1/3', has proved to be another showcase for her talent and earned her a Grammy for best blues album, with its combination of her own songs and covers of classics by Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan and her dad. She shared the stage with musicians such as Buddy Guy, Mike Jagger, Jeff Beck and BB King at the White House at the celebrations for Barack Obama becoming president of the US.
