What do Olivier Messiaen's studies on birdsong and rapper J Dilla's grooves have in common? Only a creative personality like David Fiuczynski could bring together two worlds that are seemingly so removed from each other while penetrating the vast universe of microtonal music. Commander of the ship that is the Microjam Band at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the guitar virtuoso who also founded the funk rockers Screaming Headless Torsos expands the spectrum of jazz, rock and world music using the notes among the 12 semi-tones of one octave – that is, the hidden notes between the keys on a piano.
